Adobe after effects blood effect

You can use the CC smear effect for all sorts of cool things and effevts you prefer you can also use the Liquify or the Mesh Warp effects for the same blood smear effect.

Then enable keyframing for the From and Start properties of the CC smear effect by clicking on the stop watch icon next to their name. Since we do not want the blood to sit on top of our actor, but behind them on the wall, you will have to effectss them out for the duration of the bullet hit and blood smear effect.

I duplicated this blood burst layer, darkened it efffect blurred it out so I could place it behind the actor to simulate a simple shadow for the flying blood. You can specify how far this effect reaches as well as how large the radius is of the area that is being smeared across the layer. If not anybody knows where I could read a tutorial for creating this effect in After effect or in 3D max? I also added a simple gun lighting effect as I did in my After Effects gunfire tutorial.

Duplicate your base footage and cut the actor out using either the Rotobrush tool in After Effects or animated masks. First, position the Dffect and Start points near the centre of the blood effect, directly underneath each other so it appears that the blood is not distorted at all.

After Effects Blood Smear Effect using CC Smear

One thing I like to do for any sort of bullet hit effects is to apply a Time Remapping effect to the footage to speed up the moment of impact. Go to the time position where you want the blood hit to start aftet smeared down the wall and disable any layers that sit on top of it so you can clearly see what you are doing. Here's a resource for free and cheap FX such as blood, explosions, muzzle flares, etc.
